Convert

JSON to CSV converter.

Your document never leaves the browser.

JSON to CSV that Excel opens correctly — comma, semicolon or pipe, in your browser.

Paste an array of objects, or an object of them, and get a spreadsheet-ready CSV file — the same table the editor’s Table view shows and exports.

BOM

and CRLF, so Excel reads UTF-8 names correctly

Which table

The table is the one the Table view opens on. An array or an object at the top becomes the rows; a document that is a single key wrapping a container, like {"data": [...]}, is stepped into first. The columns are every key the rows use, in the order they first appear, never sorted. Up to 50 columns are exported, and the result says when more were left out.

1

The JSON, its rows under one key

{
  "data": [
    { "id": 1, "name": "Ada" },
    { "id": 2, "name": "Linus", "city": "Helsinki" }
  ]
}
2

The CSV it gives, at the default settings

#,id,name,city
0,1,Ada,
1,2,Linus,Helsinki

Cells

1

Rows with a nested array, a null, a missing key and a comma

[
  { "id": 1, "name": "Ada", "tags": ["math"], "note": null },
  { "id": 2, "name": "Linus, Jr." }
]
2

The CSV it gives, at the default settings

#,id,name,tags,note
0,1,Ada,"[""math""]",
1,2,"Linus, Jr.",,

Cell

Strings

Strings are written as their characters, without JSON quotes.

Cell

Numbers

Numbers are written with their exact digits, so a spreadsheet reads them as numbers and nothing is rounded on the way.

Cell

Nested values

A nested object or array is written as compact JSON in one cell, so the data is kept and converts back.

Cell

null and missing

null and a missing key are both empty — CSV has no null. Use JSON or a Markdown table when that difference matters.

Cell

Quoting

A cell holding the delimiter, a quote, a line break, or leading or trailing spaces is quoted, as RFC 4180 says.

Options, and a file Excel reads

Choose comma, semicolon or pipe; semicolon is what Excel expects wherever the comma is the decimal mark. Header row writes the column names. Row labels adds the first column the Table view shows — # over an array, key over an object. The file is written with a byte-order mark and CRLF line endings, which is what makes Excel read UTF-8 names correctly. The settings are shared with the Table view’s Export card.

The first example’s JSON, with Delimiter Semicolon and Row labels off

id;name;city
1;Ada;
2;Linus;Helsinki

Private by construction

The conversion runs in your browser, in the same engine the editor uses. The document is never uploaded, never logged and never leaves your machine — there is no server to send it to. Once the page has loaded it keeps working with the connection off.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Didn’t find your answer?Write to us on the contact page →
Why do accented names look wrong in Excel with other tools?

Without a byte-order mark Excel assumes your system code page. The download here starts with one, so they open correctly.

Can I get the CSV back as JSON?

Yes — press ⇄. The CSV becomes the source and is read back with the same rules as CSV to JSON.

What does Copy put on the clipboard?

The same text as the file, without the byte-order mark.
